To begin the item creation process, customize the assessment item Name. Consider using a standardized naming/numbering convention to easily search for and find items in your bank. If desired, update the Author field.
Select the desired Item Type (Formative or Unit Assessment Item) by clicking the appropriate radio button.
Select the desired Item Format (Constructed Response, Griddable, Multiple Choice/Multiple Select, or Item Asset) by clicking the appropriate radio button.
- Griddable Item – a type of open-ended question used on STAAR mathematics assessments. A griddable template can be inserted into the Workspace section when creating the item, and the correct answer must align with the appropriate answer columns in the respective template.
- Item Asset – an element such as a reading passage, image, or diagram that is accompanied by a related item or items (questions pertaining to the asset).
Select the desired Grade Level by clicking the appropriate radio button.
Select the desired Subject Area by clicking the appropriate radio button. The options you see displayed here directly depend on the grade level you chose above.
Click the Other button to reveal additional subject areas (if applicable). Select the desired Subject Area in the second row by clicking the appropriate radio button.
If the “Other” subject area has courses associated with it, click the drop-down bar and select the desired Course.
If you select High School Courses as your grade level, choose the desired Course by clicking the appropriate radio button.
If you select a course that has more than one version, choose the desired Course Version by clicking the appropriate radio button. Do the same for the desired Unit and Sub-Unit (if applicable).
If you would like to align an item to more than one course version, click the expandable Additional Course Versions bar.
Click the Select a Course Version drop down to make your selection(s).
Click the Select a Unit drop down to make your selection.
Click the Add button to finalize the tag selections.
Note that the tags will now be displayed under the Current Course Version/Units of the Additional Course Versions section. If you would like to delete the tags, click the Remove button.
After completing the required fields of the General Information section, you have the option to complete additional fields to further tag the item. To do so, click the expandable Additional Options bar.
To tag the item with any of the additional (optional) fields, make the applicable selections by clicking the radio button for each one.
Tagging the item with a Unit (and Sub-Unit, if applicable), will aid in searching for the item in other areas of the Assessment Center. To make your selection(s), click the desired radio button(s).
Tagging the item with relevant words/phrases will aid in searching for the item in other areas of the Assessment Center. To add Keywords, type the desired words/phrases into the text box (use commas to separate more than one).
